Child's Play!!!

Ok, I kno, I kno...I was lazy again. I started this post on Tuesday and didn't finish it till today. however, I have noticed a pattern anytime I have a long run, I tend to drag the rest of the week. So lets start by recapping last weekend. Last weekend was quite eventful and maybe one of the most fun I have had in a while. I took off of work Friday in order to use one of my floating holidays, before it expired on Monday (Lincoln's birthday). I cut it close. Thursday I spent my evening making a present for one of my best Friend's daughter. It was her 3rd birthday last Saturday but her party was this Sunday. I always buy her dress up clothes, just because I think its fun, and at 3 you should be imaginative. So along with her dress, I wanted to send her on a trip to the Staten Island children's Museum. I couldn't buy tickets so I made paper tickets, and put the money in a photo album which they can use for their photos from the day. And here is the below result of my creativity!

Friday, I gave Amelia her birthday present and she loved it. She even wore the dress to gymnastics class :) . The majority if the day was spent baking with Vanessa for Amelia's birthday and let me say we are not very good bakers. We attempted to make cookie cups, and chocolate covered pretzels. Vanessa made a bunch of cookies before i got there. The cookie cups didn't come out quite like the picture but I still thought they came out cute. of course we forgot to take pictures. However, the chocolate covered pretzels took us forever. I never knew melting chocolate took such precision. It took us forever. And ultimately her husband had to give us instructions, but they came out great. So after our day of baking and eating sweets all day, we headed out to our friend Johanna's house for some girl time, and to discuss a future bible study she will be holding. It was great being able to hang out, and just talk. (these are the girls who will be traveling to DC for the marathon trip).

Christmas time- 2 years ago

Saturday consisted of my 20 mile run and car shopping. So lets begin with the success- the run. I was nervous about a 20 mile run, especially because there was a warning of snow. Luckily there was not much snow. Anyway I headed our prepared for the 20 miles in front of me. I planned the course of my run. It started out a normal run, and seemed to just get better as I went on. i think all the sugar I consumed the previous day gave me the energy to make it through the run. I have to say it was one of the greatest runs I ever had. I had to stop at mile 7 to use the bathroom. I thought I was going to explode and then I saw the big yellow M. i literally sprinted across the street and ran into McDonald's to use their bathroom. After that I felt like a brand new person and continued on my run. I had a piece of chocolate at around mile 11, and opened my energy gel at around mile 13(i think) and held onto it till about mile 19 or 20. However at my mile 11.5 markers and my mile 20 mile I ran past road kill and each time I screamed,  and nearly lost my breath. I was petrified, and I zoomed past out of fear. The rest of the run went pretty smoothly except toward the end I was like OK this is enough running, but I made it home. The result.....21.2 miles....3hrs 5 min even...Avg. 8.43 min miles...not bad for a long run. I am hoping to get one more long run in before the race, and hopefully between now and race day i can work on speed and drinking during running. Once again I failed at drinking anything during my run...I just hate carrying stuff when running, and then having to stop for the bathroom. But these are things I will work on in the weeks to come.

So Saturday continued to include unsuccessful car shopping. I found a a decent car and then it wouldn't start. This is the second time this happened to me. Geez...At about 6pm, a lot o f the car places closed. We called it a day and decided to go to the cheesecake factory (I had  a gift card). We shopped around the mall until our wait time was close to over. Justin had the Romano crusted chicken, that I always tell him to get. I had it once and it was delicious, but its not very healthy. I got the Vietnamese Shrimp Summer rolls. I pretty much get them every time I go, they are very delightful. Our next stop was Barnes and Noble, to check out some magazines and books and then off to target to get some snacks for the work week.

Party Time!!!!
Given my car situation, I didn't make it to Church but when I don't I usually watch the church I attended in Buffalo over the computer. Then It was off to the party. The party was at the gymnastics place Amelia had lessons at on Friday. It was so much fun to be childlike and frolic around. We did cart wheels, the balance beam, the trampoline, and just plain old child fun. I couldn't stop jumping on the springy floor. lol I really had a great time. Amelia had a lot of fun, and sugar. I was truly afraid since I had babysitting duty so that Vanessa and her husband can got o a valentines gathering at church. We went to Vanessa;s house, got the girls ready for bed, they headed out, and off the girls went to bed. The baby was a little fussy but they were both asleep in no time, and me and Justin spent the rest of the time watching some dumb movie, well he watched and I read a magazine, and then we finished off the evening with fear factor.

It was a great weekend as I relive it again.

There are still a couple of things I would like to talk about but I promise to do it in the next couple of days as this post is quite lengthy.

Off my Lazy Streak!!!

Ok, so its been some time since my last post, two weeks exactly. I think I have just been over consumed by running, work, life, events, and laziness. I am telling you its been non-stop and then when I finally get a break its consumed by long runs, cleaning, and online surfing. Lately, despite my enjoyment for running, running seems like a task, only because long runs take up half the day. However, I am still super motivated and even more so since we finally booked the hotel for race weekend WHOO HOO! I realized throughout all my posts I never mentioned which Marathon I am running. Well here it is: The Rock and Roll Suntrust Marathon in Washington DC.

I have to say I am super excited and super scared all at the same time. The date for the race is March 17th and it seems the day is quickly approaching. I cant believe it is already February 7th, me o my, where has the time gone. In addition, when I just looked at the website the course map has been loaded, which makes me even more nervous. I will admit I have never been to Washington DC and I am not familiar with the terrain. But hey, sometimes it is better to enter the unknown.

The purple and red lines make up the marathon course.

So lets discuss training. On January 28th, which was two Saturdays ago I headed out for my longest run to date  18 miles. Like i have said before I do not map out the miles before I run. But because I run the same paths i know more or less how many miles they are and add them together to complete that days mileage. So sad to say I came in a little short. i ran 17.78 miles, and I have to say my legs could barely go anymore, but that was 100% my fault. I missed my Friday morning run and did not want to miss it completely. So at about 8 pm Friday night I headed out for an 8 mile run. And then headed out for my 18 mile run at 10 am Saturday morning. So I ran 25.78 miles within 14 hours, not my smartest idea. However, I averaged an 8:34 min miles on Saturday so not to bad. And i guess the positive outlook is that.it gave me a little insight of what race day may feel like. But thank God I have been equipped with extreme motivation to finish what I set out to do.

Outdoor fun and sugar overload:
Yesterday despite how tired I was from the staying out late for the Superbowl. I went to bed at about 1:45 am only to get up at 5:15am. However, I felt guilty from my sugar consumption. I went a little overboard. I had a mini homemade personal apple pie, a slice of chocolate mousse cake , and a brownie. I just wish I didn't love chocolate so much, but I do!!!! I have been craving sugar the past two days but have been trying to limit it after my sugar downfall. But let me just say the chocolate mousse cake was incredible I could have eaten half the cake if I let myself. It had white chocolate mousse, chocolate mousse, and chocolate cake, covered in chocolate ganache. O man just thinking about it makes me smile haha.
It looked similar to this
( I really need to get better at the whole remembering to take pictures of things before they are gone)

Anyway after my run I did an outdoor leg workout that felt great it pretty much consisted of walking lunges around a handball court, squats alternating squat jumps, donkey kicks, and step ups. I really enjoyed the change, and I am hoping to continue the outdoor fun and do an outdoor cross training workout on Thurs.

There are a couple of things I would like to discuss but I will save that for a past later this week. As I need to review some notes and head to bed.
